Few other team sports allow as long a protracted battle between two athletes as Test cricket, thereby inherently creating camaraderie and hostility all at once. Jayden Seales and Yashasvi Jaiswal emerged as exhibit A in Delhi on Sunday as they shared banter despite locking horns earlier in the day.
India dominated the first two sessions of the second Test against West Indies at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi as they accumulated their way to 220/1 by Tea, with KL Rahul the only batter dismissed. Yashasvi Jaiswal registered his seventh Test ton while Sai Sudharsan brought up a second half-century in the format, their stand reading an imposing 162 at the break. The duo picked up the pace significantly in the second session, adding 126 runs as opposed to the 94 India managed before Lunch, the surge kickstarted by three fours off Jaiswal's blades in the first over of the session itself. His victim Jayden Seales was left unpleased as the two embroiled in a cold war where the quick even wildly slung the ball towards Jaiswal who parried it away with his pads without reacting any further, but the mood had lightened leaps and bounds as the day drew to an end.
The ball found its way back to Seales hand at the start of the third session and another battle with Jaiswal ensued, the opener more measured this time as he quietly ticked the scorecard along. Frustrated by the approach, Seales delivered the opening ball of the 66th over slightly back of a length and wide of the stumps, at the sight of which Jaiswal got in shape for a cut shot but eventually decided to let the ball through without contact. A wry smile enveloped Seales' face as he motioned Jaiswal to slash at the ball, which is exactly how he had been dismissed against the pacer in the first Test too. However, Jaiswal was not falling for the trap this time around albeit a shy smile soon gave way to giggles as he asked the pacer to do better by hollering "come on, Seales" with a smirk.
Twitterati was thoroughly entertained by the wholesome exchange.

Oh!
Gautam Gambhir can try to bench Yashasvi Jaiswal with dirty politics. But no amount of favoritism can stop him from becoming a future superstar of world cricket.
