ODI Women’s World Cup History

The history of the Women’s Cricket World Cup is long and full of major changes in women’s cricket. The very first event was held in 1973 in England, even two years before the men’s World Cup. This made it the oldest world championship in women’s sport. From that point, the tournament grew step by step into today’s ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, which fans are following with interest.

The format was different in the early years with league tables instead of knockouts. The number of ODI Women’s World Cup teams expanded as more countries joined in the event over time. Eleven teams were part of the tournament by 1997 and it was the highest ever. After placing second in second in 1993, 1997, New Zealand became the champion for the first time in 2000 at home and broke the long run streak of Australia and England.

The ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 start date has already been fixed on an earlier basis, whereas in previous decade tournaments, this schedule was uncertain. With the 2025 Women's World Cup schedule clear, fans can now plan their matches accordingly and enjoy every match. Australia has been the most successful ODI Women's World Cup team with having won a total of seven ODI World Cup titles, followed by England in the list with four trophies.

Fans are excited than ever about this tournament and are closely following every ICC Women's World Cup match. This shows that the event has truly become global, expanding with each subsequent ICC Women's World Cup season.

World Cup Squads: Sponsors and Owners

National teams do not have private ‘owners’ like franchise sides. Instead, each team is administered by its country’s national cricket board. The tournament’s global sponsorship and media arrangements combine ICC partners and local broadcasters.

The title sponsorship for the ICC Women's World Cup 2025 will be managed by JioStar, which serves as the broadcaster and media partner. They have onboarded top brands such as Google Gemini, Google Pay, Google Android, Google Pixel, Hindustan Unilever (Rexona), SBI and IGI. Title slots are valued between ₹20 crore and ₹35 crore. The ICC will operate standalone sponsorships for women's tournaments from 2025 onwards and separate from the men's tournaments.

Below we have mentioned each participating ODI Women’s World Cup 2025 team, their owner (governing board) and major known sponsors

Team Owner Major Sponsors
India BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) Apollo Tyres for jersey, Adidas for kit, SBI Life as official partner
Australia Cricket Australia Westpac bank
England ECB (England & Wales Cricket Board) Kit supplier and partner deals
New Zealand New Zealand Cricket NZC commercial partners and kit deals
South Africa Cricket South Africa CSA partners (various)
Sri Lanka Sri Lanka Cricket SLC domestic sponsors
Pakistan Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) PCB partner deals
Bangladesh Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Local sponsors and kit partners

Sponsors listed are the main reported partners at or near the tournament window. Boards often have multiple category partners and kit suppliers. When boards announce new deals mid-year, these may replace older partners. The table uses publicly announced 2025 partner information.
