Mumbai Indians have once again found themselves in a controversy over the concussion sub rule. Mitchell Santner was benched in the middle of the game after suffering a concussion. As he replaced Shardul Thakur, Santner was noticed having his shoulder bandage

The clash between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings have sparked another debate. And this time it involves the concussion substitute being used by Mumbai Indians. In the 17th over of the game, Mitchell Santner took a brilliant catch to dismiss Kartik Sharma but he fell down heavily, and injured himself.

Mumbai Indians demanded the umpires to hand them a concussion sub, and it was also agreed later on. Shardul Thakur came into the team as a substitute, while Mumbai Indians had already used their impact player on Danish Malewar. Fans thought that Santner's injury must be serious, due to which a concussion was suspected.

But later in the game, Santner was also spotted in the team's dressing room. Instead of him resting, he was seen watching the match from the pavilion with his shoulder being bandaged and ice also being attached to the same. This has sparked a controversy, on how the team got allowed to substitute Santner and Shardul, if only his shoulder was injured.

Our Take

On this controversy, Mahela Jayawardene also spoke as he said that Santner landed on his hand and neck. Since Santner felt dizzy, the umpires were able to approve the concussion sub. But the opinions of fans and various cricket analysts have been divided in this matter. Many of them are still questioning how a concussion sub was allowed by the team when Santner had injured his shoulder, not his head. It remains to be seen how this matter will be treated, as the controversy starts to grow even more.
