It is always a great feeling to get a batter out after being hit for a boundary, and Sophie Ecclestone experienced that during the WPL match against Gujarat Giants. The UP Warriorz bowler got the better of GG skipper Ashleigh Gardner in the very next ball after being hit for a cheeky boundary.

‌After opting to bowl in their inaugural match in the Women’s Premier League in Navi Mumbai, UP Warriors were in for a tough ride against Gujarat Giants. After Sophie Devine’s initial exploits, captain Ashleigh Gardner and Anushka Sharma took over with a 103-run partnership for the third wicket to take the side past the 150-run mark in the 15th over.

Gardner, who started off cautiously, reaching 18 off 19 balls, before beautifully shifting gears, smashing three sixes and four fours in the next 11 balls to cross her half-century. The GG skipper tried to take on Warriorz’s spearhead Sophie Ecclestone in an attempt to find a higher gear in the death overs.

With Sophie trying to toss the ball up and bowl fuller in a bid to get the Aussie all-rounder go down the ground, she was in for a surprise as Gardner chose to go behind the wicket. The batter moved away from the stumps before guiding a full toss behind the stumps and past the fine leg fielder in the inner circle.

But the left-arm spinner from England was quick to adjust, pulling her length back and bringing her speed down. The ball pitched on a good length outside the leg stump before turning its way to hit the off-stump.

Gardner was outfoxed as she went early for the slogsweep, and the ball went past her after the attempted stroke. Ecclestone was chuffed, and Twitter was quick to realise why she was one of the best in business as Gardner had a puzzling walk back to the pavilion.
