Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara, the two stalwarts of the Indian batting line-up, have come together. But this time their comeback didn't take place on the crease. They have instead come together for the future Indian stars, who are shining in the domestic tournaments.
Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara, the duo that has played a crucial role for the Indian team in the Test format, are now back together. With Cheteshwar Pujara already retired, it is impossible for fans to watch them bat for the Indian team once again. However, they have decided to voice support for the young talents who are showcasing their
In a video posted on his YouTube channel, Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara talked about the selection criteria for the Test team. They also focused on the challenges being faced by the BCCI lately, and how the selection from domestic tournaments could solve them. Both of the Indian batsmen also discussed the players who have been ignored by the BCCI.
Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara talked about the fact that the country doesn't lack talent. But they pointed out the fact that the selection is not taking place in terms of domestic performances. For this, they also listed out two big examples, in the Indian cricket team.
They took the names of Karun Nair and Abhimanyu Easwaran. For Karun Nair, they said that he performed well in the domestic tournaments and eventually got a call-up for the Indian team. But Rahane also said that Nair must have received more opportunities for the Indian team, which now seems impossible.
Later for Abhimanyu Easwaran, Rahane said that Easwaran has been playing well for several years. He has also been a part of India's line-up for several Test series, but never got an opportunity to play for the team. However, Ajinkya Rahane remained optimistic about the fact that Easwaran would be making for the team.
Cheteshwar Pujara said that domestic tournaments should be the main basis for having a player selected to the Test team. This would boost the young talents who want to be a part of the Test team, to show their talent and have increased participation in the tournaments such as Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy, and many more.
Having some great performances in the domestic tournaments, Karun Nair eventually got an opportunity to make his comeback to the Indian team. He returned for the India tour of England but failed to deliver as per the expectations. Even after scoring a half-century in the last game of the series, he was dropped from the team for
For this, Ajit Agarkar said that the team had much more expectations from Karun Nair. He also emphasized that the BCCI can't give 15-20 chances to any player. Still, Karun Nair had high hopes that he would have been a part of the Indian team at least for the series against the West Indies.
Karun Nair in First Class:
While Nair still continues to perform well in the Ranji Trophy, another comeback now seems out of the cards for the BCCI. In the current edition of the Ranji Trophy, he showcased his master class by scoring 174 runs in the clash against Goa.
If there is a name who has been performing consistently but still not receiving chances for the Indian team, it is Abhimanyu Easwaran. He has mainly focused on the longest format of the game and established himself as one of the finest batsmen in the Indian domestic circuit lately. Although he is able to make it to the Indian squad, he has yet to be a part of the playing XI.
Abhimanyu Easwaran in First Class:
It should also be noted that Abhimanyu Easwaran has also sacrificed to play in the Indian Premier League, to ensure that his sole focus remains on the Test format. With the words of Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara, fans are keen to see when Easwaran finally gets a chance to play for the Indian team in the Test format.
