Pratika Rawal left the field after an unfortunate injury during India’s final group game against Bangladesh in the Women’s ODI World Cup in Navi Mumbai on Sunday. The Indian opener twisted her right ankle while fielding in the boundary, in the 21st over, before being taken out of action.

‌Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and sent Bangladesh in the final group game of the ODI World Cup at Dr DY Patil Sports Complex in Navi Mumbai on Sunday. The game was initially reduced to 43 overs after a delayed start, with rain halting the game again after 12.2 overs of the Bangladesh innings.

A significant amount of time was lost as the contest was shortened further to 27-overs-a-side, and the visitors walked in to resume their innings. With the score reading just 73/3 after 20 overs, Bangladesh tried to accelerate, with Sobhana Mostary hitting two consecutive boundaries off Deepti Sharma in the 21st over.

Her partner Sharmin Akhter tried to go wide of long on with a cross-batted swat off a flighted delivery in the last ball of the same over. Pratika Rawal, who was stationed at mid-wicket, sprinted towards her left to stop the Kookaburra but had to apply the brakes after she slightly overran past the ball.

And in an attempt to slow done and catch the ball, Pratika ended up twisting her right ankle awkwardly with her entire body weight on top of her right foot. The Indian opener shrieked in pain as she went down with Harleen Deol and Jemimah Rodrigues rushing towards her.

The physio also rushed in, and after a brief while, Pratika hobbled off the field with the support of Sneh Rana and the support staff. Replays showed how horrific the injury was, with her teammates unable to believe what they saw on the big screen.

Twitter was shattered as that looked like the end of the World Cup for the in-form opener with India getting ready to face Australia in the semifinal.
