IND W vs SA W | Twitter in splits as Richa Ghosh channels inner Rishabh Pant to halt game at crucial moment

Richa Ghosh reminded the cricketing world of Rishabh Pant when she suddenly pulled down with an injury during an ODI World Cup game against South Africa. The wicketkeeper-batter called for the physio as the game moved away from the hosts before miraculously recovering seconds later.

‌Richa Ghosh’s maiden half-century in an ODI World Cup match helped India recover from a precarious 102/6 after being put into bat at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Thursday. The wicketkeeper-batter smashed 11 fours and four sixes to top-score for the Women in Blue with 94 off 77 balls and took the side to 251 in 49.5 overs.

In return, South Africa were struggling at 81/5 before a fighting half-century from Laura Wolvaardt reduced the equation to 108 runs from the last 14 overs with four wickets in hand. Nadine de Klerk and Chloe Tryon then put on 69 runs for the seventh wicket to bring the Proteas within touching distance.

Though Tryon departed for a well-made 49, de Klerk continued to tonk the Indian bowlers for fun. With 41 runs required off 24 balls, de Klerk smashed two sixes and a four to bring the equation close to a run a ball.

Richa then pulled out a familiar strategy that has since entered the Indian cricketing folklore. With a win slipping away from India’s grasp in the 2024 T20 World Cup final against the same opponent, Rishabh Pant perfectly pulled off an injury break to kill the momentum of the Proteas and help India win the prestigious title.

Richa tried to replay the same story as she suddenly sat down, clutching her leg as the physio rushed in. Within moments, she was all good and went on to break the stumps while attempting a run-out. But all her efforts went in vain as South Africa went on to win the contest by three wickets.

Twitter was in splits as Richa did everything she could, first with the bat and then with her antics on the field to help India out.
