The first is surely the trade deal involving Sanju Samson. But along with that, the team also wanted an all-rounder to their line-up for the next season. For this, they went to Gujarat Titans and it seemed to the fans that the deal could happen. However, in a latest update, this trade deal has also been cancelled.
Ahead of the IPL 2026 season, Chennai Super Kings required a spinner to their team. They had been relying on the combination of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja for several seasons. But recently, Ravichandran Ashwin announced his retirement from the IPL, making him available for the overseas T20 leagues.
At this point, Ashwin also left a hole in the CSK franchise. The team now needed a spin bowler who could not just take wickets, but even score runs for the team when needed the most. For this, there were several options but none of them was as Washington Sundar.
Sundar is already a part of Tamil Nadu in domestic cricket, due to which he holds experience at these conditions. And with his inclusion to the line-up, it will be helpful to both Sundar and CSK to make the most out of Chepauk. Following this, the discussions took place between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans.
Washington Sundar came in as one of the much needed assets for Chennai Super Kings. The trade between the two teams was already put down on the table. But upon the discussions which took place, it was made clear that Gujarat Titans Washington Sundar to leave the team.
Their Head Coach, Ashish Nehra, also declined giving off Washington Sundar to Chennai Super Kings. With this, some discussions took place between both the teams to ensure that a trade deal could take place. Washington Sundar also said that he was unaware of the trade rumours involving him of Chennai Super Kings.
In the previous season, Washington Sundar got a few games to play for Gujarat Titans. But Gujarat knows the real value of the youngster, due to which they are unwilling to release him for the upcoming season. Also, the trade deal between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans for him has been cancelled.
Washington Sundar became a crucial part of the Indian team in the T20I series against Australia. He was a part of the line-up across the majority of the games and made it all count.
