Bangladesh Cricket Board allows Steve Smith’s participation in Bangladesh Premier League

The Bangladesh Cricket Board has decided to allow Steve Smith participation in the upcoming edition of the Bangladesh Premier League, though earlier he was denied the permission citing rules. As David Warner was in the initial draft of the players he did not face any such hindrance.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board(BCB) has decided to tweak the Bangladesh Premier League(BPL) rules a bit to accommodate Australian cricketer Steve Smith for the upcoming season. Earlier the player was denied the permission citing that only the players who had been drafted earlier by the franchises can participate in the league though a final decision on the matter was left on BCB. Another reason was that other franchises were also objecting to the fact that Smith was being included from outside the initial draft of players.

"We could not give him permission earlier as other franchises had protested his signing," BCB spokesman Jalal Yunus said on Thursday to AFP.

"Today four franchises emailed us separately saying that they have withdrawn their objections for the greater interest of the tournament."

But the BCB official also added that other franchises also want permission to draft one player each outside their initial list. This solution seems to have paved the way for Smith Smith’s participation, who is currently banned from International cricket. Smith will play for the Comilla Victorians franchise in the league.
