Karnataka batsman Karun Nair has been selected as the replacement for the injured Shikhar Dhawan in the Indian Test squad for the third and final Test match against New Zealand at Indore, which is scheduled to start from October 8. Earlier, Dhawan was ruled out with a fracture on his left hand.

"The All-India Senior Selection Committee have named batsman Karun Nair as the replacement for injured opener Shikhar Dhawan in the Indian Team.

"Dhawan has been ruled out of the third Test of the Paytm Test series against New Zealand after he sustained a minor fracture on his left hand," read a press release from the BCCI.

Dhawan has been advised a rest of 10-15 days, which would mean that he will miss the last Test in Indore. It might also open the door for Gautam Gambhir's return to the team after a gap of 2 years if KL Rahul too fails to recover in time. Nair, who has been scoring heavily in domestic cricket, is yet to make an appearance for the senior team. He was part of the India A squad which toured Australia recently, and Nair will be hoping that Kohli and co decide to experiment with the team in the final Test given India have already won the series.
