India vs New Zealand | Shikhar Dhawan ruled out of third Test

Shikhar Dhawan has been ruled out of the 3rd Test match against New Zealand, which is scheduled to start from October 8 in Indore, with a fracture on his left hand. Dhawan underwent a scan after being hit twice by Trent Boult, one of which struck his left thumb, in the 2nd innings of the 2nd Test.
The southpaw's place in the Indian Test squad has been debated a lot recently but the Delhi batsman was back in the starting eleven for India in the second Test at Eden Gardens after KL Rahul was ruled out due to a hamstring injury. The 30-year-old, who was selected in the team ahead of Rahul's replacement Gautam Gambhir, was dismissed after scoring just 1 run on the first day of the Kolkata Test. He followed it up with a knock of just 17 runs in the second innings as he was trapped in front of the wicket by Trent Boult.
Before being dismissed, Dhawan got hit on his left thumb by a Boult bouncer, along with another knock on his shoulder off another delivery. He complained about the pain upon returning to the dressing room and was rushed to a nearby health facility to undergo a scan.
According Cricbuzz, the Indian opener has been advised a rest of 10-15 days, which would mean that Dhawan will miss the last Test in Indore, which is scheduled to start from October 8. It might also open the door for Gautam Gambhir's return to the team after a gap of 2 years if KL Rahul too fails to recover in time.
