Getting the Pro Kabaddi League underway in 2014 marked a turning point for kabaddi in India, transforming the traditional sport into a modern, franchise-based spectacle similar to the IPL. Over 12 seasons, eight different teams have lifted the PKL trophy, showcasing the league’s competitiveness. Patna Pirates remain the most successful side, winning three consecutive titles from Seasons 3 to 5 and reaching five finals in total. Jaipur Pink Panthers, owned by actor Abhishek Bachchan, were the inaugural champions and later added a second title in Season 9.

Dabang Delhi K.C. also secured two titles, including the most recent Season 12 crown. Other champions include U Mumba (Season 2), Bengaluru Bulls (Season 6), Bengal Warriorz (Season 7), Puneri Paltan (Season 10), and Haryana Steelers (Season 11). The league expanded from eight to twelve teams in Season 5 with the addition of Tamil Thalaivas, Gujarat Giants, UP Yoddhas, and Haryana Steelers.

Among all, Telugu Titans, Tamil Thalaivas, and UP Yoddhas are yet to win a title, while Gujarat Giants have finished runners-up twice. The PKL’s rule innovations, such as do-or-die raids and bonus points, helped revolutionize the sport’s pace and global appeal, making it one of India’s most-watched leagues.
