For the former Liverpool and Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, a return to English football looks increasingly likely after his contract with Besiktas was terminated last month. The 32-year-old, who came through Southampton’s academy before moving to Arsenal and later Liverpool, enjoyed a decorated career that includes a Premier League title, three FA Cups, the UEFA Champions League, Carabao Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup.
During his Premier League career, he scored 20 goals and provided 24 assists in 235 appearances. Oxlade-Chamberlain joined Besiktas on a free transfer in 2023 but struggled to make a lasting impact, managing only five goals and one assist in Turkey. His stint ended with a severance package worth €1.75 million (£1.5m). Despite frequent injury setbacks, including serious knee problems during his Liverpool days, his versatility and experience continue to attract attention.
Leeds United, currently 12th in the Premier League after one win, one draw, and one defeat from their opening three fixtures, are among the clubs interested in him. Championship side Birmingham City, sitting 10th with seven points from four games, are also monitoring his situation. As a free agent, Oxlade-Chamberlain can join a club outside the transfer window, opening the door for a possible comeback.
