Earlier, Moises Caicedo had given Chelsea the lead in the 14th minute with a spectacular strike from the edge of the area after Liverpool lost possession cheaply.
Cody Gakpo later equalised for Liverpool in the second half, converting from close range following a cross by Dominik Szoboszlai.
