For the Turin derby, Juventus were left frustrated after being held to a goalless draw by city rivals Torino, missing a chance to climb into the Serie A top four. Despite registering 22 shots and generating 1.26 expected goals (xG), Luciano Spalletti’s side failed to find the back of the net, continuing their struggles in attack. Juventus have now failed to score in four of their last six league matches, equalling the number of scoreless games they had in their previous 38 Serie A outings.
It was also a night of unwanted history for Spalletti, who became the first Juventus manager since Carlo Ancelotti in 1999 not to win his first Derby della Mole in Serie A. Reflecting on the result, Spalletti admitted his team “lacked the quality and creativity” in the final third and moved the ball too slowly to trouble Torino’s defence.
He praised the attitude of substitutes Edon Zhegrova and Jonathan David, as well as defender Federico Gatti, but emphasised that improvement in attacking fluency is essential. With fatigue affecting some players after a congested schedule, Spalletti expressed confidence that Juventus will grow from this experience but noted that “nobody was happy” in the dressing room after the stalemate.
