Galatasaray president Dursun Ozbek hinted at a potential move for Lionel Messi, citing the club’s financial strength and transfer success after record signings like Victor Osimhen for £65 million. Despite Messi’s Inter Miami contract until 2028 and his happiness in Florida, Ozbek believes the Turkish champions could realistically pursue the Argentine legend.
In the latest transfer buzz, Galatasaray president Dursun Ozbek has hinted at a bold move to sign Lionel Messi from Inter Miami. The Turkish giants, who have won three consecutive Super Lig titles and amassed a record 102 points in the 2023-24 season, are reportedly considering adding the Argentine legend to their star-studded squad. Ozbek stated that Galatasaray’s strong financial position and history of smart signings make such an ambition realistic.
In recent years, the club has secured big names like Mauro Icardi, Wilfried Zaha, Dries Mertens, Lucas Torreira, and even completed a record £65 million ($85.5 million) transfer for Victor Osimhen. Messi, however, remains under contract with Inter Miami until 2028 and has spoken fondly about life in Florida, where he has revitalized the MLS by winning the 2023 Leagues Cup and guiding the club to the 2024 Supporters’ Shield. His current deal reportedly earns him £15 million ($19.7 million) annually.
While Ozbek believes Gala’s stature allows fans to “easily ask the Messi question,” major hurdles exist, including Messi’s new long-term contract and his family’s happiness in Miami. Still, Galatasaray’s ambitions and resources keep the door slightly open for what would be one of football’s most sensational transfers.
