Chelsea’s pursuit of RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons, valued at €70 million, has hit a roadblock. Despite personal terms being agreed, Leipzig rejected Chelsea’s player-swap proposals involving Axel Disasi, Christopher Nkunku, and Carney Chukwuemeka. With no concrete bid made, Leipzig sporting director Marcel Schafer confirmed Simons remains at the club, casting doubt on Leipzig’s planned move for Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott.

After the opening weekend of the Bundesliga, RB Leipzig’s transfer saga involving Xavi Simons and Chelsea has taken a dramatic turn. The 22-year-old Dutch attacking midfielder, valued at around €70 million with an Estimated Transfer Value of €67.5 million (range €60.7m-€74.2m), had already agreed on personal terms with Chelsea. However, the deal is now on the verge of collapse due to Chelsea’s insistence that Leipzig accept a player in return.

The London club reportedly offered three names: Axel Disasi, Christopher Nkunku, and Carney Chukwuemeka. Leipzig showed slight interest in Nkunku, a former player, but opposition within the board has stalled that option. Disasi holds little appeal, and Chukwuemeka has already joined Borussia Dortmund. With limited progress, negotiations have slowed to “loose communications” between the clubs. This uncertainty leaves Leipzig in a difficult position after their crushing 6-0 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga opener.

Sporting director Marcel Schafer confirmed that Simons remains part of Leipzig’s plans unless all sporting and financial conditions are met. His potential departure is crucial as Leipzig’s pursuit of Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott depends on it. Chelsea’s stance has therefore not only jeopardized their own deal but also Leipzig’s transfer plans.
