Nature gives no second chances might be too dramatic a saying for cricket, but that is what Axar Patel's wicket in the second T20I between India and Australia ultimately boiled down to. The veteran was too eager to sneak an extra run but once denied, a huge dive could not make up for the slip.

Axar Patel was distraught after being runout at a crucial juncture in the second T20I between Australia and India at the MCG

India found themselves in disarray after being put into bat in the second T20I against Australia at Melbourne Cricket Ground as Josh Hazlewood returned sensational figures of 3/13 from a four-over new-ball burst to leave the tourists reeling at 40/4 at the end of the powerplay. The management as often chose to trust Axar Patel in a moment of crisis with Abhihsek Sharma already going ballistic out in the middle, and the duo seemed able of living up to the promise as they stitched together a 19-run stand. However, just as Men in Blue's hopes of mounting a comeback were beginning to take flight, tragedy struck with Axar Patel both the instigator and the victim.

On the third ball of the eighth over, Axar slapped Xavier Bartlett through cover into a slow outfield and the two jogged along for a couple of runs. However, the all-rounder suddenly expressed interest for a three as he fervously turned around only to see Abhishek's raised hand. By this time, the veteran was already halfway through the track and as he executed another about turn, the surface beneath him gave way and Axar slipped to one knee. Even so, the all-rounder took off with intent and lunged himself towards the crease, hurting himself in the process and nearly making it home but Josh Inglis' quick glovework spelled his demise.
