The Women's Premier League is about to have a new season, for which the preparations have already started. According to the reports, the date for the Mega Auction is expected to be finalized soon. This would be the second Mega Auction in the history of the tournament, being in its inaugural edition.

The Women's Premier League Mega Auction will take place in Delhi, allowing all teams to make changes to their line-up. The dates for the same are yet to be announced by the BCCI. But they are expected to be either 26 or 27 November. It is also reported that the Mega Auction will be wrapped up within a day, making it highly intense for the fans to watch.

1. Mega Auction Dates

The dates for the WPL Mega Auction have not yet been confirmed. Earlier, there was a clash between New Delhi and Goa over the spot to have the auction. This continued for a while, with New Delhi emerging as the host of the same. All the teams involved in the WPL have been informed about the same.

Talking about the dates of the auction, a source said, “It is most likely during the last week of November that the WPL mega auction will happen. But nothing has been confirmed on the exact date of the auction and it's expected to be finalised in some time from now. Once it's done, the same will be communicated to the teams.”

Since there are just five teams participating in the Women's Premier League, it is expected to be completed within a day. These teams include the Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, UP Warriorz, and Gujarat Giants. Mumbai Indians will be heading to the next season as the runners-up.

2. Retention Rules

The retention rules for the Women's Premier League have also been given. All the teams will have to submit their retentions by November 5th. There are a total of 5 retentions, which are allowed to each team, being two uncapped players and three capped players. Out of these,

If a team retains just four players, they will also be able to get a Right to Match card. Based on the retentions, the price slabs have been divided as follows:

  • Player 1: 3.5 Crore rupees
  • Player 2: 2.5 Crore rupees
  • Player 3: 1.75 Crore rupees
  • Player 4: 1 Crore rupees
  • Player 5: 50 Lakh rupees

Each team will have an auction purse of 15 crore rupees for the Mega Auction. Depending on the players they have retained, they will be able to use the following amount of their purse:

  • 5 Players: 9.25 Crore rupees
  • 4 Players: 8.75 Crore rupees
  • 3 Players: 7.75 Crore rupees
  • 2 Players: 6 Crore rupees
  • 1 Player: 3.5 Crore rupees

Based on the retention, teams will be able to proceed to the Mega Auction.

3. Deadline for Registration

Teams will also have the option for RTM (Right to Match Card). But for this, it is necessary for the teams not to fully utilize the retention list. A team that has retained the fewest players before the Mega Auction will also have the advantage of having the most number of Right to Match cards.

Following their submission of a retention list on November 5, teams will also have to announce the released players. These players will be announced by November 7 and will eventually enter the Mega Auction of the tournament. The final date to register for the same is 18 November, and the list of all registered players will be out on 20 November.
