During the India tour of Australia, fans may have been reminded of the 2000s, by watching a viral photo. In the nets session, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Shubman Gill were spotted practicing together. This also matched the image where three other Indian stars posed in the same way.

An image has gone viral over the social media, where Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Shubman Gill were practicing together in the nets. The Indian top order is full of preparations for the second ODI, after losing the first one. While the fans loved watching all three of them practicing together,

During the 2000s, the Indian team had a different batting trio. This covered Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, and Rahul Dravid. The transformation of the team from three legends to three new modern day legends is enough to remind fans of that era. The time when Indian batsmen used to rule, not just in India but even across nations.

1. Sehwag, Sachin & Dravid

Earlier, the Indian batting trio had three stalwarts, which were Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, and Rahul Dravid. Whether the team has to play in Tests or ODIs, they were able to dominate across all of them. Sehwag and Tendulkar had their spots fixed at the opening position for the team.

Virender Sehwag in Internationals:

  • Innings: 443
  • Not Out: 15
  • Runs: 17253
  • Average: 40.31
  • Strike Rate: 92.55
  • 100s: 38
  • 50s: 72

On the other hand, Rahul Dravid used to come in the top order, and take up the job, if any one of them failed to perform well. Sachin Tendulkar used to showcase his class to the bowlers, with the straight drives and on-side shots. While Virender Sehwag was known for his aggressive batting style, which helped India to quickly score runs.

Sachin Tendulkar in Internationals:

  • Innings: 782
  • Not Out: 74
  • Runs: 34357
  • Average: 48.52
  • Strike Rate: NA
  • 100s: 100
  • 50s: 164

And then came Rahul Dravid, who is known as the Wall of Indian cricket. In the Test format, the bowlers got their energy levels exhausted when Rahul Dravid stood against them. This trio has helped the Indian team to a great extent to win matches not only in Tests but also the ODIs.

Rahul Dravid in Internationals:

  • Innings: 605
  • Not Out: 72
  • Runs: 24208
  • Average: 45.41
  • Strike Rate: 51.98
  • 100s: 48
  • 50s: 146

It should be noted that Sehwag, Tendulkar, and Rahul Dravid have been a part of the Indian team across various trophy wins. They were a part of the lineup during the 2002 Champions Trophy, 2007 T20 World Cup, and 2011 World Cup. While Dravid may not be a part of all of the tournaments, he has contributed to the team in the Test format.

2. Rohit, Kohli & Gill

When Sachin Tendulkar was closing the chapter of his international career, a young Virat Kohli lifted him on his shoulders. With this, he showcased that the responsibility of the Indian batting line-up has been passed on to him. And he did not disappoint the fans for the same, going on to break several records.

Virat Kohli in Internationals:

  • Innings: 618
  • Not Out: 89
  • Runs: 27599
  • Average: 52.17
  • Strike Rate: 79.16
  • 100s: 82
  • 50s: 143

Years after the trio of Sachin, Sehwag, and Dravid, fans now have the batting trio of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Shubman Gill. It should be noted that all of these players have been the captain of the Indian team. With Gill making his debut a few years back, the trio has helped India dominate across all formats with ease.

Rohit Sharma in Internationals:

  • Innings: 533
  • Not Out: 65
  • Runs: 19708
  • Average: 42.11
  • Strike Rate: 87.24
  • 100s: 48
  • 50s: 108

Earlier, it was Shikhar Dhawan in place of Shubman Gill. But with Gill performing better, he has been able to etch his name into this batting trio. As Rohit Sharma is able to give a fiery start to the Indian team, he is supported very well from the other end by Shubman Gill. Both of them manage to score well for the Indian team if they remain not out.

Shubman Gill in Internationals:

  • Innings: 156
  • Not Out: 17
  • Runs: 6329
  • Average: 45.53
  • Strike Rate: 79.87
  • 100s: 19
  • 50s: 26

Even if any one of them loses their wicket, the fans are not disheartened, as they know it would be Virat Kohli coming down the crease. Kohli has established himself as the modern day greats, who is even praised by several cricket analysts and former players. With his class and style, Kohli is a versatile player for the Indian team to have dominated across formats.

Since Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have retired from Tests and T20Is, they are only available for the ODIs for a few more years. This could be the last few months for the fans to watch this iconic trio of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Shubman Gill together. They have been able to win the 2024 T20 World Cup and 2025 Champions Trophy, playing together for the team.
