They will be playing an ODI game for the team after the Champions Trophy final win over New Zealand. Fans might also remember what happened when India and Australia faced each other last time in an ODI clash at Perth. With the match dating back to 12 January 2026, both Rohit and Virat dominated with the bat.
1. Rohit & Virat's 2016 Masterclass
India went on a tour of Australia in 2016, and this also included the ODI series. The top order line-up was strong, having Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, and Virat Kohli. All of them were known for the red-hot form, which helped India to receive a strong start to the game.
India won the toss in this game and decided to bat first. Shikhar Dhawan lost his wicket in the 7th over, putting India at the score of 36/1. Then came Virat Kohli to join the set batsman, Rohit Sharma to the crease. Both of them continued to dominate the Australian bowlers with ease.

By the power play, India was able to finish at the score of 50/1. But the middle overs turned out to be the phase which belonged to the Indian team. First, Rohit Sharma went on to complete his half-century in 63 balls. This was followed by Virat Kohli also completing his century in 61 balls.
Both of them decided to play aggressively and help the Indian team reach a good total. Thus, Rohit Sharma went on to complete his century in 122 balls, giving his best to the team. Virat Kohli fell short by 9 runs to complete his ton, as James Faulkner took his wicket in the death overs.

But Rohit Sharma continued his onslaught with the bat as he knew the job ain't done yet. He went on to score 171 runs for the team off just 163 balls with 13 fours and 7 sixes. Moreover, Sharma remained not out throughout the team's innings. At the end, India posted a total of 309/3 in 50 overs.
2. Australia's Chase
Despite giving such strong performances, India was not able to answer the Australian batsmen. Taking the home ground advantage, the team also had a strong batting line-up with players such as Aaron Finch, David Warner, Steven Smith, and more.

But the Indian bowlers were able to get a strong start to the chase. By five over, they were able to dismiss both the openers. At this point, everyone thought that the team was just a wicket or two away from winning the game. Little did they know, they were about to face the wrath of Steven Smith and George Bailey.
Smith and Bailey continued to dominate the Indian bowlers, just like Rohit and Virat did to the Australian line-up. By the end of 42 overs, their partnership came to an end, but they had already put the team at the score of 263/3. India dismissed George Bailey but Smith stood at the crease.

He continued the chase but lost his wicket in the final over, scoring 149 runs off 135 balls. With the job being almost done, James Faulkner finished the game by taking a single. Australia ended up winning the game by 5 wickets and 4 balls remaining.
Now, with India and Australia facing each other once again at Perth, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will take the centre stage. Will they be able to repeat the heroics like they did in 2016 or not?
