Sheffield Shield | Ignorant Khawaja puts Labuschagne in spot as batter fist bumps himself in hilarious scene

The batters in the middle often try to make life easy for the incoming player by sharing insights about conditions and bumping fists with them before they take guard. But Queensland captain Marnus Labuschagne was given a cold welcome by an ignorant Usman Khawaja, who forgot the usual ritual.

Marnus Labuschagne

‌Marnus Labuschagne was on the moon after scoring his fourth century for Queensland in his last five matches. The Queensland skipper hit his second consecutive hundred in the Sheffield Shield to take his side to 319/6, a lead of 91 runs, against South Australia at the end of the second day’s play on Thursday.

His rich vein of form could not have come at a better time, as Australia are expected to announce their squad for the upcoming Ashes series against England in November. The batter smashed 19 fours and a six during his knock of 159 to put his side in the driver’s seat in the four-day contest.

But the Aussie batter had a hilarious welcome as he walked in, in just the third over of the day. Opener Usman Khawaja, who was at the non-striker’s end, walked towards him to have a quick word about the conditions and the bowler.

But as the ritual goes, the batters often bring their bats together or do fist bumps before proceeding to their respective ends. But Labuschagne never got one as he was all ears to his senior partner before extending his arms.

But the southpaw was already on his way back, leaving the skipper in an embarrassing situation. But the batter was not ready to give up, as he cheerfully brought both his hands together to complete a unique, but comical exercise. The zeal showed throughout his innings as he scored yet another big century.
