1. India's Historic Series Loss

The Indian team started with the mission 5-0 before the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. For this, the team had five Tests at home, two against Bangladesh and three against New Zealand. After winning the two Tests against Bangladesh, confidence increased for the series against New Zealand.

The second match was a do-or-die for the Indian team. A win in this game could save the decade-long streak of undefeated home test series. But India once again suffered a loss to New Zealand. This time, the team lost by 113 runs, and the series was also lost.

Still, fans expected the Indian team to at least save a whitewash. Little did they know that even fate did not support the Indian team at that time. New Zealand ended up winning the final game of the series by 25 runs. This was a humiliating loss for the team, and questions were raised about Gautam Gambhir, the new Head Coach.

It should be noted that Ravichandran Ashwin, India's spin maestro, retired during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. In addition, after the BGT, players such as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were also made to play in the Ranji Trophy. Both of them marked their return to the same after years,

But everyone knows what happened next. Despite waiting for the England tour, fans did not see Rohit and Virat in the same. Rohit Sharma first announced his retirement, which was followed by Virat Kohli announcing the same in May 2025.
