‌The Australian duo of Adam Zampa and Josh Inglis are set to miss the opening match of the three-match ODI series against India in Perth on October 19. The home side has named left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann and wicketkeeper-batter Josh Philippe as replacements for the series opener.

Zampa will miss out on action due to paternity leave, but is expected to be back in the mix for the remaining two ODIs. However, Inglis has not fully recovered from a calf strain and is expected to miss the second game too.

Inglis’ replacement Philippe is expected to feature in the playing eleven in the opening game, his first in more than four years, after playing his last ODI against the West Indies in July 2021. In Inglis’ absence, he is the only wicketkeeper in the squad, with Alex Carey prioritising a Sheffield Shield Game ahead of the Ashes next month.

Philippe was part of the Australia A side that toured India recently, scoring a century and a fifty in two first-class games against India A. Meanwhile, Kuhnemann or fellow left-arm spinner Cooper Connolly is expected to take up the specialist spinner's spot, with Travis Head and Matthew Short being the part-time options.

India will start their white-ball tour of Australia with a three-match ODI series, with the second and third games to be played in Adelaide and Sydney, on October 23 and 25, respectively. That will be followed by a five-match T20I series, with the first match scheduled to start in Canberra on October 29.
