Tazmin Brits has been in the form of her life this year, and that continued in the Women’s World Cup tie against New Zealand on Monday. The South African opener hit her fifth century in 2025 to help her side to the box seat during the chase of 232 at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore.

‌After their initial round reverses, New Zealand Women and South Africa Women squared up at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore for their second group game. The Kiwis had a bad start after opting to bat first, losing opener Suzie Bates in the first ball of the game.

But captain Sophie Devine and Brooke Halliday’s partnership ensured that New Zealand recovered well before another collapse saw them being bundled out for 231 with 13 balls to spare. Devine once again shone for the Kiwis with 85 off 98 balls, while left-arm spinner Nonkululeko Mlaba triggered the meltdown with her spell of 4/40 in 10 overs.

In return, the South African pair of Tazmin Brits and Sune Luus sent the White Ferns on a leather hunt after captain Laura Wolvaardt departed early on. The pair added 159 runs for the second wicket to put them in the driver’s seat to wrap up the contest.

Brits continued her excellent form in 2025, scoring her fifth century, and her first in the World Cup, to lead the run chase. She took just 87 balls to reach her three-figure mark before celebrating the milestone in some style.

After driving a low full toss from Brooke Halliday down to long off, Brits completed a comfortable single amid loud cheers and whistles from her teammates. She, then, immediately pulled out the archer celebration to send the dressing room amused. She put her bat aside, sat down on one knee before aiming at the dugout with an imaginary bow and arrow.

Twitter was in awe as Brits also created a new record for most ODI hundreds in a single calendar year, going past Smrithi Mandhana, who was tied with her on four hundreds.
