Both of them were not able to do well for the team in the previous season, due to which they might be released ahead of the next edition. Fans also question who the team could target in the auction.

1. Faf du Plessis

Faf du Plessis, one of the finest IPL batsmen, is about to be released yet again. He was earlier released by Royal Challengers Bengaluru ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. And now, the reports claim that Plessis will also be released by Delhi Capitals ahead of the next auction.

In the auction, Faf du Plessis was picked up by Delhi Capitals on his base price of 2 crore rupees. While fans expected him to be retained by the RCB using the Right to Match card, the team didn't use the same. Eventually, Plessis started to play for Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2025 season.

Moreover, he was also given the opportunity to become the Vice Captain of the team, giving more responsibilities to him. He has already led Royal Challengers Bengaluru before, signifying the experience he had. And leading Delhi Capitals along with Axar Patel was another moment for Faf du Plessis

In the IPL 2025 edition, Faf du Plessis was not able to give his best performances to the team. He scored just 202 runs in 9 matches at an average of 22.44, with two half-centuries. This is far lower than his previous performances in the IPL. Taking a look at this form, he was also dropped by Delhi Capitals for the next few games, as he missed out on 5 games for the team.

2. Jake Fraser-McGurk

Another name which joins Faf du Plessis in the list of players likely to be released by Delhi Capitals is Jake Fraser-McGurk. He has been a stellar youngster in the IPL, who even dominated against Jasprit Bumrah in the tournament. But his performances saw a new low in the IPL 2025 season when he was retained by DC.

Jake Fraser-McGurk in IPL 2025:

  • Innings: 6
  • Not Out: 0
  • Runs: 55
  • Average: 9.16
  • Strike Rate: 105.76
  • 100s: 0
  • 50s: 0

In the IPL Mega Auction, Jake Fraser-McGurk was brought back by Delhi Capitals. The team came in with its Right to Match (RTM) card in the auction and brought him back for 9 crore rupees. Fans were excited to have Fraser-McGurk back to the team, as his aggressive batting style had already impressed them.

He played for Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2024 for the very first time. And in just 9 matches, he maintained a strike rate above 230 for the team, and even smashed four half-centuries. Although Fraser-McGurk didn't score a single century, his performances

Later when he got retained, his performances made Delhi Capitals drop him from the playing XI after a few games. His strike rate also dropped to 105.76, as he struggled to score runs for the team. After a bad season, Jake Fraser-McGurk also enters the list of players who are likely to be released by Delhi Capitals.

3. Delhi Capitals Purse

As of now, it is just these two players who are likely to be released by Delhi Capitals. Jake Fraser-McGurk was retained by the team for 9 crore rupees, and Faf du Plessis was bought by them for just 2 crore rupees. Releasing both of them will help Delhi Capitals to free up 11 crores of their purse

With this free purse, Delhi Capitals will be eyeing some other batsmen to their line-up. Bringing some in-form top order batsmen would be the team's main objective ahead of the auction. While the retention list will be released on 15 November, these two players are unlikely to be a part of the team anymore.
