Hitting six sixes in an over is a rare feat, but Akash Choudhary managed to go two better against Arunachal Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy. The Meghalaya batter went on a stunning assault to hit eight sixes in eight balls to notch up the fastest half-century in the history of first-class cricket.

‌Meghalaya beat Arunachal Pradesh by a whopping margin of an innings and 446 runs in a plate group match of the Ranji Trophy at Pithwala Stadium in Surat on Monday. Meghalaya was helped by a marathon knock from Arpit Bhatewara, who smashed 23 fours and four sixes during his 207 off 273 balls, to post 628/6 before declaring their first innings.

Meanwhile, skipper Kishan Lyngdoh and Rahul Dalal also scored centuries before Akash Choudhary’s whirlwind knock of 50 from 14 balls helped them to add quick runs to their tally and ended the innings on a high. The all-rounder shattered some records during his unbelievable cameo to join big names like Sir Garfield Sobers and Ravi Shastri in the annals of the game.

Akash hit six sixes of left-arm spinner Limar Dabi in the 126th over of the innings to join Sobers and Shastri, the only other players to perform the feat in an over in first-class cricket. But he did not stop there, striking two more maximums in the first two balls off finger spinner TNR Mohith to make it eight in a row.

That also helped him to own the record of the fastest fifty in the history of first-class cricket, reaching the milestone in just 11 balls as Meghalaya powered past the 600-run mark to declare their innings.

Akash Choudhary creates history!
