Rajasthan Royals Set to Hand Captaincy to This Indian Star.

Rajasthan Royals might get a new captain for the upcoming IPL season. With the team being involved in a trade deal for Sanju Samson, this will put them without a skipper. But at the same time, two Indian batsmen are coming as the front-runners for the new captain.

Rajasthan Royals will be going through some massive changes in the IPL ahead of the next season. As of now, the team is involved in a trade deal with the Chennai Super Kings. This will allow them to get a new skipper for their line-up, as they are Sanju Samson to CSK.

As Samson led the team for the last few seasons, this trade will also bring a leadership change in Rajasthan. It is being anticipated that there are two Indian batsmen who are ahead in the line as the new skipper. Riyan Parag, who led the team in place of Samson, is no longer a contender for the new skipper.

1. Yashasvi Jaiswal

India's Test batsman, Yashasvi Jaiswal, comes as the first frontrunner to be the new skipper of the team. It was also reported earlier that Jaiswal showed an interest in being the team's captain a few months ago. Now, if it all goes his way, he might also be leading the Rajasthan Royals for the upcoming IPL season.

Since Jaiswal is also looking forward to making his way to the Indian team in the domestic format, being the captain of Rajasthan could help him the most. In a podcast, he also revealed his plans to lead his team in the IPL and even at the international level. With the IPL captaincy , it might be a new start for Jaiswal.

He has been a part of the Rajasthan Royals since 2020, and soon made his way to the Indian team. With his impressive performances in the IPL, Jaiswal also made his way to the T20I line-up. But it has been a long time since he has been excluded from the limited-overs format for the Indian team.

Yashasvi Jaiswal in the IPL:

  • Innings: 66
  • Not Out: 3
  • Runs: 2166
  • Average: 34.38
  • Strike Rate: 152.85
  • 100s: 2
  • 50s: 15

With Jaiswal already making his name internationally, it is now time for him to be an all-format player. He has already shown interest in leading the side, and even a few players in the RR team have shown their support for having a young for the team.

The reports claimed that the Rajasthan Royals were divided into three parts. One group wanted Samson to stay, while the other wanted Riyan Parag to lead the team. But at the same time, there was a third group which wanted Yashasvi Jaiswal to be the next captain of the team.

2. Dhruv Jurel

Amidst the time when fans could think that Jaiswal is the new captain, there is another player in contention. And this is none other than the wicket-keeper of Rajasthan Royals, Dhruv Jurel. He has also spent a lot of time with the team over the last few seasons, emerging as the new contender for captain.

Dhruv Jurel in the IPL:

  • Innings: 35
  • Not Out: 11
  • Runs: 680
  • Average: 28.33
  • Strike Rate: 153.84
  • 100s: 0
  • 50s: 4

It was speculated that Riyan Parag and Yashasvi Jaiswal would be competing for the captaincy. But due to some unknown reasons, Parag has been excluded as the front runner of the next skipper. And in his place, the team is looking at Dhruv Jurel as the next captain for the line-up.

Coming to bat for the team in the middle order, Jurel has shown some prolific performances. But he has less experience in the IPL and international cricket as compared to Yashasvi Jaiswal. It should be noted that Jurel started playing his first-ever IPL season for the team in 2023 and has been a part of their line-up

With Samson not being a part of the team, Jurel would emerge as the proper wicket-keeper. This also means he won't be playing as a batsman for them in the next season. Moreover, Jurel has proved his worth to the Indian team in the absence of Rishabh Pant. He played in the series against the West Indies and ended up scoring well.
