WBBL | Twitter reacts as the Voll Roll returns after ramp gone wrong results in resounding headshort

Perhaps the only thing worse for a player than a bad day out with the bat is doubling it up with a painful blow to the head, just the kind of afternoon Goergia Voll had on Sunday. However, her Sydney Thunder skipper Phoebe Litchfield was not too fussed in the dugout as she burst out laughing.

Syndey Thunder's 181 did not prove to be enough in their Women's Big Bash League 2025 season opener against the Hobart Hurricanes as a Danni Wyatt Hodge special and a crucial Nicola Carey half-century took them across the line with three balls to spare. Carey's 43-ball 58 more than made out for an unsuccessful day with with the ball, where she got spent for 35 runs without any scalps to her name. However, one batter she did manage to trouble was Georgia Voll, their battle producing a WBBL iconic moment early in the season.
During the early exchanges of the game, both openers Tahlia Wilson and Voll were struggling to get away courtesy some good swing bowling from Molly Strano and Carey. Voll tried to break the shackles against the latter with a trademark ramp over her head, but the ball bounced a bit too much for her liking and she failed to middle it. To her misfortune, she got enough willow on it to redirect the Kookaburra square on helmet, sending her tumbling with a huge groan caught on the stump mics. Carey immediately approached her with a raised hand in apology with concern writ large on her face, while there were mixed reactions in the commentators' booth. However, all inhibitions disappeared for them when the cameras panned to the Thunder dugout, wehre Litchfield and the support staff were laughing their heads off each time they saw the replay.
Twitter was amused, to say the least.
