IND W vs SA W | Twitter in shock as South Africa reminisces knockout blues in summit clash

South Africa have always found the going tough in knockout stages of ICC tournaments and Anneke Bosch extended the sorry happenings further during the Women’s World Cup final. The South Africa batter dropped a straight forward chance from Shafali Verma in Navi Mumbai to gift her a crucial life.

‌After being put into bat at the DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai, India had an excellent start against South Africa in the final of the Women’s ODI World Cup on Sunday. Openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma put on a century stand inside 18 overs to hand the home side the early advantage.

But the visitors made a brief comeback into the contest with left-arm spinner Chloe Tryon dismissing Mandhana (45) and the side keeping new batter Jemimah Rodrigues quiet. Sune Luus produced a perfect opportunity, two overs later, to extend their hold further as she tossed one up at a good length outside off stump.

Shafali, who looked set and dangerous after less than a run-a-ball fifty, acccpeted the bait as she went for wild slog sweep. Anneke Bosch was placed on the midwicket fence just for that as the ball flew right towards her direction.

But Bosch made a meal of the chance as she put down a sitter to extend the Indian opener’s stay in the middle. Luus could not believe her eyes as she stared in disbelief, while Shafali had a relieved look on her face and continued with her charmed life in full flow.

Twitter was shell shocked and quick to add the dropped chance to a long list of unbelievable happenings with the Proteas in ICC knockout games.
