Defending champions Haryana Steelers aim to become only the second team to retain the PKL crown. Retaining key raiders Vinay, Shivam and Vishal, they added star raider Naveen Kumar for INR 1.20 crore. However, Mohammadreza Shadloui’s exit and defensive gaps, especially in the left corner, pose challenges ahead of Season 12.

After the triumph in Pro Kabaddi League Season 11, the Haryana Steelers are set to defend their title in Season 12, aiming to become only the second team to achieve back-to-back championships. Since debuting in 2017, they have made the Playoffs in four of seven seasons, with coach Manpreet Singh continuing after guiding them to their maiden crown. The core of the winning squad, including raiders Vinay (164 raid points in 24 games), Shivam Anil Patare (158 raid points), and Vishal Tate (43 raid points), remains intact.

Defensive stalwarts Jaideep Dahiya and Rahul Sethpal also stay, while star raider Naveen Kumar, with 1,102 raid points in 107 matches, joins for INR 1.20 crore. However, the absence of MVP Mohammadreza Shadloui, who delivered 82 tackles and 57 raid points last season, leaves a void in the left corner defence. Sanjay Krishan Dhull’s exit to Bengaluru Bulls further weakens the right cover.

While newcomers like Manikandan N, Sachin, and Hardeep have a chance to prove themselves, concerns remain over Naveen’s injury history and the lack of experienced all-rounders. Opponents may look to exploit their defensive gaps, making the title defence a test of depth, fitness, and tactical adaptability.
