Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate, earning $93,000 a week and out of contract next summer, revealed he was once too afraid to spend on luxuries due to his brothers’ influence. The 26-year-old, linked with Real Madrid, has made 142 appearances since joining Liverpool in 2021 but could leave if no contract extension follows.

As the uncertainty around his Liverpool future grows, Ibrahima Konate has revealed that he has long been cautious about spending his earnings, despite making $93,000 a week at Anfield. The 26-year-old French defender, whose contract expires next summer, has been linked with a potential move to Real Madrid on a free transfer. Konate admitted that he was initially “too afraid” to spend money on luxuries such as cars, clothes, or shoes because his brothers kept him grounded and ensured he stayed humble.

Having started his career at Sochaux before shining in 95 appearances for RB Leipzig, Konate joined Liverpool in 2021 and has since featured 142 times for the Reds, helping them win the Premier League, FA Cup, and League Cup. Despite his success, he remains guided by his family’s influence and wary of people trying to take advantage of his fame. Konate acknowledged that he eventually allowed himself to indulge “a bit too much” in clothes but still values his brothers’ protective role.

As his contract runs down, manager Arne Slot faces the challenge of either securing an extension or preparing for his possible exit. Meanwhile, Konate is recovering from a right quadriceps injury that ruled him out of France’s clash against Iceland.
