Reports | Inter Milan hand Mauro Icardi's number 9 to Romelu Lukaku

Inter finally signed Romelu Lukaku after a rather long and arduous saga, paying €80 million for the Belgium international. The 26-year-old has inherited Icardi's No. 9 shirt, suggesting that the Argentine forward is on the verge of leaving San Siro, with Juventus the top suitors for his signature.

Romelu Lukaku is officially the new Inter Milan striker, and his arrival already caused some changes at San Siro. The Belgium international striker has been handed Inter's No. 9 shirt, the one that has belonged to Mauro Icardi since the Argentine’s arrival in 2013/2014.

This is clearly a move by Inter to try and push the Argentine to leave the San Siro this summer, with Juventus continuing to be linked to a possible move for Icardi this before the window closes. Inter made an €80 million effort to bring Lukaku to San Siro, with new manager Antonio Conte pushing for the move. The Nerazzurri will now try to get a big-money deal by letting Icardi go, as they look to balance their books.

The Argentina star has been heavily linked to a move to Serie A champions Juventus, with Napoli also in contention for the 26-year-old. Many rumours have been told regarding Icardi's future, with Juventus allegedly involving Dybala in a potential deal, and Napoli trying to land the star forward with multiple proposals (the initial offer was €40 million-plus €2 million bonuses, rejected by Inter). All this simply points towards a fresh start for Mauro Icardi, with his move to another club just a matter of time.
