GG-W vs UPW-W | Twitter in disbelief as accidental ricochet leaves Meg Lanning shattered

Meg Lanning would have been shattered after losing her wicket in the most unluckiest of fashions in the WPL game against Gujarat Giants. The UP Warriorz skipper looked in great nick before an accidental ricochet down the leg side disturbed her stumps as she dropped her bat in despair.

‌Gujarat Giants had an excellent start, before dropping pace in their Women’s Premier League match against UP Warriorz in Vadodara on Thursday. After ending the powerplay at 52/2, they struggled during the middle phase before Sophie Devine’s (50) big hits towards the end took them to 153/8.

In the chase, the visitors once again lost Kiran Navgire cheaply in the second ball of the match, with a fortunate Beth Mooney getting a stumping dismissal to her name despite not collecting the ball properly behind the stumps. But captain Meg Lanning and new batter Phoebe Litchfield helped the side recover from the immediate shock with a 37-run stand.

But just as Lanning was looking in excellent touch with a beautiful square drive off Kashvee Gautam, her fate was decided in the most unfortunate way possible. With the pacer bowling a length delivery that was going down leg, Lanning got hit on her thigh guard before the ball pitched and hit the stumps for the lights to flash.

She could not believe her luck as a potentially big innings was cut short in an unlikely fashion. The Warriorz’s skipper was shattered as she dropped her bat down before picking it up and walking back.

Twitter was stunned as what worked in Mooney’s favour went against her former countrywoman Lanning and the visitors had another unfortunate dismissal.
