Donovan Ferreira was keeping wickets in yellow and represented the Super Kings franchise, but did something more to remind fans of MS Dhoni. The Joburg Super Kings wicketkeeper swiftly collected the ball and broke the stumps, all in one motion, to effect a runout against MI Cape Town in the SA20.

‌MI Cape Town tasted their first victory in the SA20 2025-26 season with a four-wicket win over Joburg Super Kings at home on Wednesday. Pacer Corbin Bosch shone with the ball with a three-wicket haul as the visitors made 123/7 in 12 overs in a rain-shortened encounter. Meanwhile, Nicholas Pooran (33) and Jason Smith (22) peppered the chase with entertaining cameos as the home side went past the target with four balls to spare.

However, it was Donovan Ferreira who ended up gaining all the attention on social media, not for his show with the bat but for his slick wicketkeeping skills that reminded the cricketing world of MS Dhoni. The visitors found their way back into the contest after getting the dangerous Pooran, conceding just 18 runs in the next 13 balls when Ferreira pulled off a stunning runout.

With Richard Gleeson bowling a slower yorker outside the off stump, Reeza Hendricks reached for the ball, guiding it past the short third man fielder. Matthew de Villiers was quick as he covered ground from backward point before hurling a throw at the wicketkeeper’s end.

With the ball going awkwardly high after bouncing, it looked like Hendricks would complete his second run. But Ferreira showed excellent technique to collect the ball and whip off the bails in a flash, all in one motion, as Hendricks was way short of the crease.

Twitter was impressed with Ferreira’s glove work and was quick to reminisce about the other Super Kings wicketkeeper in yellow.
