AFG vs HKC | Twitter in splits as Zadran and Atal converge to mess straightforward catch

Afghanistan reminded Pakistan with their lacklustre fielding during their Asia Cup encounter against Hong Kong in Abu Dhabi. Both Ibrahim Zadran and Sediqullah Atal went for the same catch, with the former finally dropping an easy chance and both engaging in a verbal duel to fix the accountability.

‌Sediqullah Atal and Azmatullah Omarzai’s stroke-filled half-centuries powered Afghanistan to 188/6 against Hong Kong at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday. In response, Hong Kong were reeling at 13/3 in just the third over with Fazalhaq Farooqi dismissing opener Anshy Rath in the second ball of the match and Zeeshan Ali following suit in the next over.

It would have been worse for Hong Kong had AM Ghazanfar got the wicket of Kalhan Challu in the last ball of the fourth over. With the spinner floating a fuller delivery on the stumps, Challu got a leading edge trying to work the ball down the leg side.

Just as the ball ballooned in the air, Ibrahim Zadran, stationed at short mid-wicket, and Sediqullah Atal, who was at extra cover, came rushing in. Both had their eyes on the ball and came in after making the call, with Zadran putting down an easy chance.

Atal pulled out in the last minute and was in close proximity to Zadran when the catch was put down. Both players started arguing on whose fault it was even while captain Rashid Khan asked both to be loud and clear with their call.

Twitter was in splits as Afghanistan did a Pakistan, giving Challu a much-needed life as Ghazanfar walked away in disappointment.
