Australia has already started to prepare its squad for the 2027 World Cup. Having the majority of their players retired from the ODI format, the team sets its eyes on the next WC, where they enter as the defending champions. Moreover, they have started to build the young talent for the big stage.

The Australian team has received a strong start to its new era in the ODI format. Being the defending champions, they have also set their eyes on the 2027 World Cup, eager to continue their strong performances in the same. But, there was a major concern in the team which came upon the retirement of several from the ODI side.

Still, Australia decided to continue with a young team in the series against India. They were able to secure a series win by 2-0, winning the games without many interruptions. In their squad against India, the team only had six players who had played more than 50 ODI matches for the country. The rest of them were a part of the side for a buildup to the 2027 World Cup.

1. Australia's Young Talent

The Australian team is now being utilized by the young talents perfectly to speed up its revolution. In the ODI series against India, the team even had six players who had not played ten games in the format. Despite that, they were given preference over the Champions Trophy-winning team to play at their own home ground.

And fortunately, the Aussie youngsters were able to prove to themselves that they will be able to maintain the World Champions tag for the team. The main focus of the team has been to accelerate the development of players such as Cooper Connolly and Matt Renshaw.

Matt Renshaw has played just three ODI games till now and in the first ODI, he played a vital role in the chase. While chasing the short target set by the Indian team, Renshaw remained not out and scored 21 runs off 24 balls. Later, he continued such a knock in the second ODI match of the series too, scoring 30 runs off 30 balls.

In the third ODI, Renshaw was finally able to notch a big score for the team. He went on to score 56 runs for the team, which helped Australia to reach a good total before they started losing consecutive wickets. On the other hand, Cooper Connolly also showcased his dominance with the bat in the series against India.

He didn't get the chance to bat in the first game but made it count in the second match. Scoring 61 runs in the game, Connolly helped to finish the chase for the Aussies and eventually received the POTM award in the game. Holding a lot of expectations in First-class cricket, Connolly is also present in the team's white ball revolution for the 2027 World Cup.

2. Backed by Experience

It can be said that the Australian team is still backed by experience, which played a vital role for them in the bilateral series. The team still had players such as Mitchell Starc, Travis Head, Josh Hazlewood, and a lot more, who were able to back the youngsters to a great extent.

With the bat, Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh were able to use their experience to perform well against the Indian bowlers. This also helped the young bowlers, such as Nathan Ellis, Xavier Bartlett, and more, to step in with the ball and eventually

Even with players such as Steven Smith, David Warner, Glenn Maxwell, and a few more being unavailable for the team due to retirements, Australia seems not to look back and continue building its squad for the 2027 World Cup.
