The third and last T20I of the three-match series, between New Zealand and England, ended early without any result due to rain in the first innings just after three overs. Eventually, Harry Brook’s England won the three-match series by 1-0, with a 65-run win in the second T20I at Hagley Oval.
The England skipper, Harry Brook, won the toss and asked New Zealand to bat first. The Kiwis faced the blow at the early score of 20 runs in 1.5 overs. It was Tim Robinson, who was caught by Jacob Bethell off Brydon Carse, at the individual score of just two runs off four balls. Following his dismissal, Tim Seifert and Rachin Ravindra added 18 runs for the second wicket till the fourth ball of the fourth over. It was also the time when rain interrupted the game, and it couldn’t start due to the continuous rain. Seifert had scored 23 runs off just 11 balls, with two fours and two sixes, alongside Rachin’s 10 (8) before rain spoiled the game. Eventually, the game was called off without any result, and England ended up winning the series 1-0.
Harry Brook won the ‘Player of the Series’ award for his brilliant batting performance, hitting 98 runs. Earlier in the second T20I, England defeated the Blackcaps by a big margin of 65 runs to take a lead in the series after the T20I series opener was washed off due to rain. England posted a total of 236/4 in the allotted 20 overs in the second ODI courtesy of the explosive half-centuries scored by Phil Salt (85 runs off just 56 balls) and Harry Brook (78 runs off just 35 balls). Later in the second innings, the English bowling attack bundled out the hosts at the score of just 171 runs in 18 overs. Skipper Harry Brook was adjudged the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his match-winning knock.
Now, England and New Zealand will take on each other in the first ODI of the three-match series at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on Sunday, October 26. England will aim to continue their winning run with a success in the ODI series opener, while the Kiwis will aim to make a comeback with a win in the first ODI after losing the T20I series.
