PAK vs SA | Twitter in awe as Kagiso Rabada channels inner Brian Lara to hit unbelievable six

Fast bowlers often double up as pinch hitters with the willow, adding invaluable runs, but Kagiso Rabada went one better against Pakistan in Rawalpindi. The South African pacer sent Shaheen Afridi to the cleaners with a classy six in the second Test before earning plaudits from the left-arm seamer.

‌The South African lower order fought an admirable battle to go ahead of Pakistan on the third day of the second Test at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. The visitors were bailed out from a tricky-looking 210/7 to a total of 404 in their first innings, courtesy of contrasting half-centuries from Senuran Muthusamy (89* off 155) and Kagiso Rabada (71 off 61).

The Proteas, as a result, ended with a lead of 71 runs in response to the home side’s 333 in their first essay. Pakistan collapsed to 16/3 in the second innings before Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan helped the side to 94/4, a lead of 23 runs, at the close of play.

But it was Rabada who stole the limelight with his counterattacking fifty, which included four sixes and four fours. Amongst the boundaries, his effortless chip shot that sailed over left-arm seamer Shaheen Afridi’s head for a maximum stood out.

With the Proteas having already gone past the hosts’ total, Afridi tried to end the growingly frustrating last-wicket stand as he aimed for the stumps in the fourth ball of the 107th over. But he got his attempted yorker wrong as the ball seamed into Rabada after pitching on a good length around off stump.

The left-handed batter just straightened his elbows in an extension of a forward defensive shot, but the result shocked the entire cricketing world, including him. The ball sailed above the bowler’s head for a huge six over long on as a shocked Afridi watched in disbelief.

He appreciated Rabada for the classical hit before walking back to his mark as the batter slowly walked towards his partner. The South African pacer himself could not believe his timing as he shared a laugh with Muthusamy after looking at his willow.

Twitter was in awe as Rabada channelled the inner batter within him to pull off a classic for the ages.

What a shot that was!

WOW!!

Brilliant!

Yeah!

Great knock!

Pure class!
