Rishabh Pant has been named captain of the India A side that will play two Test matches against South Africa A in Bengaluru from October 30. The wicketkeeper-batter has been declared fit to play by BCCI’s Centre of Excellence after undergoing rehabilitation for a foot injury suffered in England.
Pant will be eyeing a return to the Indian team with the two-match home series against South Africa, starting four days after the second unofficial Test. The wicketkeeper-batter fractured his foot during the fourth Test of the England tour before missing out on the action from the final game
The southpaw has been given a return to play clearance by BCCI’s COE following two stages of rehabilitation for his injured foot. Initially, Pant was set to return in Delhi’s Ranji Trophy second round game, but his announcement as the skipper of the side for both matches will see him miss the domestic fixture.
The Lucknow Super Giants skipper and his deputy Sai Sudharsan are set to play both the warm-up matches, while KL Rahul, Dhruv Jurel, and the pace trio of Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna and Akash Deep will feature in the second game only.
The Proteas are touring India for an all-format series starting with two five-day games on November 14 and 22, respectively. The action will then shift to white-ball with the visitors playing three ODIs and five T20Is that will go on till December 19.
