T20 World Cup Asian Qualifiers | Nepal and Oman qualify for World Cup after ensuring top-three finish

Oman and Nepal have qualified for the T20 World Cup to be held in India and Sri Lanka early next year. They are currently first and second in the Asian and East Asian Pacific Super Six points table and ensured a top-three finish after the United Arab Emirates beat Samoa earlier on Wednesday.

‌Oman and Nepal were guaranteed slots in the T20 World Cup to be held in India and Sri Lanka early next year. Both sides progressed to the marquee event even before they met in the Super Six contest of the ICC T20 World Cup Asian and East Asian Pacific Qualifiers in Oman on Wednesday.

Oman and Nepal are unbeaten so far in the qualifiers and have six points each after the first three games in the Super Six stage. With the United Arab Emirates beating Samoa earlier in the day, and a total of three teams making it through to the marquee event, one among the UAE and Japan will also punch their tickets.

The UAE are currently third with four points from four games, and the game against Japan will be their last Super Six game. Meanwhile, Japan have two points from three games and can qualify if they win their remaining two games.

Kushal Bhurtel and Jatinder Singh are the top run-getters for Nepal and Oman, with 121 and 118 runs from four and three matches, respectively, in the ongoing qualifiers. With the ball, leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane has spearheaded Nepal’s attack with 10 wickets from four games, while left-arm seamer Jiten Ramanandi is Oman’s leading wicket-taker with seven scalps.
