IND vs WI | Twitter reacts as Bumrah blames umpire and technology for denying him obvious wicket

The more technology gets introduced in a sport, the harder it becomes to get every application right or keep everyone happy with it. Sunday in Delhi provided exhibition A of the same as Jasprit Bumrah let the umpires know what he was thinking after John Campbell survived a close LBW call.

West Indies picked up where they had left off on Day 2 as John Campbell and Shai Hope extended their third wicket partnership past 150 to take the visitors within sight of a lead for the first time in the game. Skipper Shubman Gill had opted to begun proceedings with Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah but the duo failed to break through in their opening spells, even though the latter was constantly threatening with a hint of reverse swing at his disposal. The closest Bumrah got was on the penultimate ball of the third over of his day against Campbell batting on 94 but technology came to the opener's rescue with a contentious call, much to Bumrah's chagrin.

Steaming in from over the stumps, Bumrah delivered a length ball in the off-stump channel that drew Campbell forward into defence. However, the SG shaped in significantly in the air with the angle to strike the batter's pad flush in front of the stumps, immediately provoking a loud appeal from the hosts. The umpires though remained unmoved, and after some deliberation Gill went for the review. The replays showed that as Campbell tried to play the ball, his willow got stuck behind the front pad, but the force of the movement meant it showed its face just enough to be able to meet the incoming ball. There was a woody sound as well as a deflection that seemed to indicate the red cherry had indeed hit the bat first and albeit it was impossible to say with surety, it was the version the third umpire chose to go with it as he declared Campbell not out. Bumrah had no option but to accept the fate as he walked back to his mark but made sure to let his feelings know to the umpire as he chimed with a smirk and a giggle, "You know as well it is out... the technology just cannot prove it."

Twitterati was thoroughly amused.
