Women's World Cup | Twitter reacts as Shamim grabs behind-back stunner to leave Aussies seven down

Dynasties in sports don't get bigger than the Australian women's cricket team: seven ODI World Cups, six T20 titles, and a plethora of legends. They thus walked in as favourites against Pakistan in the Women's World Cup, but a Rameen Shamim stunner put them on the brink of an unprecedented upset.

Pakistan had a dream start to their third Women's World Cup encounter at the R Premadasa Stadium on Wednesday as they restricted defending champions Australia to within 40 in the powerplay while also taking two scalps, which culminated in a brutal collapse from 55/2 to 76/7. Nashra Sandhu was the star of the show with three scalps, but with each wicket that fell a capable batter walked out to bat, highlighting why Australia had fought themselves out of such positions uncountable times in the the past. However, once Tahlia McGrath became the sixth scalp, perhaps the last player with a claim to be a bowling all-rounder walked out in Georgia Wareham with the hope of allowing Beth Mooney to put together a rescue end at the other end. But Pakistan, fresh off defeats against Bangladesh and India, had decided this would be their day as Rameen Shamim showcased in stupendous style.

On the second ball of the 22nd over, Wareham tried to nudge Shamim's length ball at the stumps towards long on and eke a single if possible. However, the Kookaburra fizzed off the surface to tkae the top of the willow and towards Mooney standing wide of the crease. Shamim took a couple of hurried steps to her right but once she realized Mooney was in the way, the spinner brilliantly went behind her rival's back and stuck a hand out with precise judgement. The white rock obliged by getting stuck into the palm, thus sending Wareham packing while the Pakistan contingent broke out in wild celebrations.

Twitterati could not be more impressed.
