India U19 beat Australia U19 by seven wickets in the second youth Test in Mackay on Wednesday. Henil Patel and Udhav Mohan picked up 10 wickets between them to help the visitors win a low-scoring game inside two days to complete another whitewash, after their 3-0 win in the ODI series earlier.
Opting to bat at the Great Barrier Reef Arena, Australia Colts were skittled out for 135 runs inside two sessions, with wicketkeeper Alex Lee Young hitting nine fours and a six, to top-score for them with a fighting 66. The hosts never recovered after the new-ball duo of Udhav Mohan and Henil Patel reduced them to 32/5 within 10 overs. Henil finished with figures of 3/21, while left-arm spinner Khilan Patel ran through the lower order to pick up 3/23.
In return, the Indian batting also collapsed as they could manage a lead of only 36 runs before getting bowled out for 171. The visitors were reeling at 82/6 before the lower order, led by Khilan and Deepesh Devendran, showed admirable resistance to take them into the green. Deepesh scored 28 off 38 balls, while Khilan made a gritty 26. Medium pacer Kasey Barton was the pick among the hosts’ bowlers with a spell of 4/57, while Charles Lachmund, Will Byrom, and Julian Osbourne all chipped in with two wickets.
The same script was repeated in the home side’s second innings, with Henil and Udhav combining admirably to have them in a similarly tottering position of 29/5. Lee Young once again tried to play saviour with a 78-ball 38, but the Aussies were skittled out for 116, setting India a modest target of 81 runs. Henil once again impressed with figures of 3/23, while leg-spinner Naman Pushpak took over from Khilan to clean the tail with a spell of 3/19.
India’s start was not ideal as they lost Vaibhav Suryavanshi and skipper Ayush Mhatre cheaply inside two overs. However, Vedant Trivedi anchored the chase, hitting six fours during his unbeaten 33, while Vihaan Malhotra scored a run-a-ball 21 as the visitors closed at 84/3 in 12.2 overs.
