WBBL | Twitter reacts as Healy leaves umpires speechless with inquiry into DRS' unfair mechanisms

No major sport has managed to integrate technology into their proceedings without any wrinkles and cricket is no different. Several aspects of the review system remain murky, one of which came to light in the WBBL on Thursday and was met with fighting words by Sydney Sixers' Alyssa Healy.

Hobart Hurricanes made light work of Sydney Sixers at the North Sydney Oval as Hayley Silver-holmes' three-wicket burst restricted the hosts to 152/9 before a 95-run opening stand between Lizelle Lee and Danni Wyatt-Hodge set the foundation for a rout. Though it would have made little difference, the Sixers thought they had struck a bit earlier when Ashleigh Gardner went upstairs for a review in the ninth over against Lizelle Lee, only to be left frustrated by what followed.

Amelia Kerr had the ball in hand in the ninth over and was shown no mercy by the in-form Dani Wyatt-Hodge as she tore into the leggie for a boundary sandwiched between two maximums. However, the Kiwi seemed to have the last laugh when she sent one hurtling down leg against the attempted sweep, accompanied by a loud sound as Alyssa Healy safely puched the Kookaburra. The Sixers skipper immediately appealed with confidence and when the umpires shook their head in disagreement, Healy immediately directed Gardner to opting for a review and her compatriot obliged. The replays showed that there seemed to be a big gap between the ball and bat/gloves with clear daylight in between, but the Snicko countered by revealing a significant spike just as the white rock went past the willow. After several rock-and-rolls and an extended review, the third umpire finally came to the decision that the evidence was inconclusive, meaning the on-field umpire would stay. While the decision did little to irk Healy, the fact that the Sixers lost a review as a consequence left the keeper perplexed.

"But if you can't make a decision, how do we lost a review?" Healy inquired off the umpires with hands raised into question marks but with no answer forthcoming, she had no choice but to continue playing. Twitterati, however, was not one to let things slide as easily.
