ICC is planning to bring back a tournament after two years. This will be a comeback of the tournament which helped to decide teams for the 2023 World Cup. Now, the same tournament is poised for a comeback, which could change things again for the next edition.

The ICC World Cup is about to have some major changes. But it won't be for the 2027 World Cup, it is expected to have these changes for the 2031 World Cup. As per the latest reports, the ICC is about to bring back the ODI Super League for the 2031 World Cup, which could help teams to to the tournament.

This tournament was vital for the teams to be qualified for the 2023 Men's World Cup. Following this, it was scrapped for the 2027 World Cup, but a possible comeback is now back on the cards. This move could help the ICC to emphasize on the importance of the bilateral ODI series.

1. What is the ODI Super League?

The ICC ODI Super League was a tournament introduced by the ICC to make the World Cup qualification easier for the teams. This tournament started from July 2020 and came to an end in May 2023. This tournament was expected to start earlier but it was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It's first and only season has been played for the 2023 World Cup. Following this, the idea was immediately scrapped by the ICC, as the schedules of the ODI series were cramped. With a lot of ODI matches for some teams and a few for the others, the idea for this tournament

The main objective of this tournament was to ensure that the ODI bilateral series are given more importance by the teams. Due to this reason, the games were linked directly to the World Cup qualification, playing a crucial role for the teams to make it to the big stage.

In this tournament, all teams had 8 ODI series of three-match each. Out of these series, four were played at home and four were away, giving an equal chance to all teams to make it to the big stage. It should be noted that the important matches only gave points to the teams for their qualification.

Since the tournament is about to be brought back, fans should also know about the points system. Each team is given 10 points for a win, 5 points for a no result or abandoned match or tie, and 0 points if they lose the game. In the 2023 edition, India was able to qualify directly being the hosts and 7 other teams were qualified due to their standings in the

Following this, the other teams made it to the World Cup qualifiers, fighting against each other for the final spots. These teams were put on the World Cup Qualifier tournament with five associate members for these last two places.

2. Why Was it Scrapped?

After the 2023 World Cup, the ODI Super League eventually got scrapped. This was replaced by the ODI rankings, which was also the method used earlier by the ICC to put the qualified teams in the World Cup. Eventually, the other teams competed in the World Cup qualifiers for the
