Ranji Trophy 2025/26 edition has been filled with some of the most intense games. But no one expected records to be broken in the current edition, with the speed at which they have been broken now. Recently, a batsman took over the record for having the fastest fifty in first-class cricket.
The current edition of the Ranji Trophy has been the one where fans saw numerous top stars play. Preparing for the upcoming home season, every player wants to get their spot in the Indian team. But in this phase, there have also been a few stars who have managed to break records that could have ever thought of.
This happened in the Ranji Trophy match between Meghalaya and Andhra Pradesh. The match surely was one-sided in favour of Meghalaya, but it was also home to absolute destruction by the batsmen. During the game, Akash Kumar smashed 8 consecutive sixes to score his half-century in just 11 balls.
The match between Meghalaya and Andhra Pradesh saw a record being broken. And after a long time, this record is now being held by an Indian batsman. Akash Kumar, who stepped in to bat in the middle order, seemed to be playing the game in the T20 format.
Despite wearing the white jersey, his aggressive style remained on the field. While all the players went on to play slowly, Akash decided to go skyway for his half-century. He went on to complete his half-century in just 11 balls, creating the record of the fastest fifty
After a long time, this record has been broken, and it is an Indian batsman to has done the same. He ended up scoring 50 runs off just 14 balls, before the innings was declared by the skipper. With his innings, he has given a statement of intent for Meghalaya in its upcoming matches in the Ranji Trophy.
The record, which has now been broken by Akash Kumar, was earlier held by an English batsman. And it was Wayne White, who made the record to his name in 2012. He plays for Leicestershire, and in a match against Essex in 2012, he showed his skills against the bowlers.
White was able to dominate the bowling line-up of Essex as if he were playing in a T20 league. He ended up scoring 50 runs in the game off just 12 balls, taking the home ground advantage. Since this record was made in 2012, it has remained untouched by any other batsman who played in the first-class format. But now, this is being held by Akash Kumar.
The knock played by Wayne White had set a benchmark for the players to come in the next generation. In a format where everyone plays slowly and focuses on strategies, White brought in the concept of rapid scoring. And now, his own record has been broken by Akash Kumar from Meghalaya.
Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh went against each other in a Ranji Trophy match. This game was important for both teams, as one stood at the top of the table while the other stood at the bottom. Knowing its dominant form, Meghalaya was able to prove themselves yet again in the Plate Group.
Batting first, the team went on to score 628 runs for the loss of 6 wickets before declaring their innings. Arunachal Pradesh’s bowlers had no chance to settle themselves against the strong batting line-up of Meghalaya. Arpit Bhatewara was the top run scorer for the team, with 207 runs, as Kishan Lyngdoh and Rahul Dalal went on to score centuries.

But it was the knock played by Akash Kumar which caught the attention and has made the headlines. Coming to bat in the middle, he helped Meghalaya to cross the 600-run mark with ease. Akash smashed eight consecutive sixes, which helped Meghalaya to reach a significant total.
With the bowl, Meghalaya again held the upper hand against Arunachal Pradesh. In both games, the team was able to take quick wickets which helped them to win the game by a huge margin. They bowled out Meghalaya for just 73 and 109 runs, which allowed them to win by an innings and 446 runs.
