AUS vs IND | Lightning strikes out India's thundering start but Gabba washout hands them series 2-1

Only 29 balls of play was possible at the Gabba in the fifth and final T20I of the series between Australia and India before lightning followed by heavy showers forced a call off. The tourists had got off to a brilliant start as they raced to 52/0, but will have to settle for a 2-1 scoreline.

‌Australia won the toss once again on Saturday and opted to field first on a bouncy deck typical of the Down Under repertoire. The extra carry nearly spelled Abhishek Sharma's demise in the first over itself when his attempted hoick after a resounding four soared into the night sky, only for floodlights to play spoil as Glenn Maxwell let slip a sitter. At the other end, Shubman Gill appearred undettered, as he got the innings rolling with a gorgeous clip through midwicket the very next ball, followed by an even more exquisite slap through the covers off Xavier Bartlett. However, the vice-captain had reserved his best for Ben Dwarshius as he took the left-armer for four boundaries in his second effort, finely distributed from point to square leg.

Dwarshius' day got worse when he dropped Abhishek the next over off Nathan Ellis' bowling, and the southpaw added salt to wounds by smashing the first six of the innings soon after. The frenzy of boundaries meant India had raced to 49/0 after 4.5 overs with both Gill (29* off 16) and Abhishek (23* off 13) looking in fine fettle, when a threat of lightning forced players of the field while the crowd sought sheds. Within a few minutes, the heavens opened up too and never relented thereafter, forcing a second match the series to be abandoned as India took the honours 2-1.
