The same also went for Virat Kohli in the 2023 World Cup, as India suffered a heartbreak in the game.

The Indian fans are a lot happy, watching the World Cup coming home. But a few of them even noticed how things went bad for Laura Wolvaardt, the South African captain, who did her best for the team. Scoring a ton in the finals, she eventually lost her wicket with South Africa

What happened to Laura Wolvaardt seemed to be a repeat telecast of what happened to Virat Kohli in the 2023 World Cup. Being the top scorer of the tournament, and even scoring well in the knockouts, everything matched with his performances and Laura Wolvaardt’s. Despite their best efforts, they were not able to lay hands on the World Cup trophy.

In the same edition, Virat Kohli was able to break a number of records and get them to his name. He took over Sachin Tendulkar for having the most runs scored in a single edition of the World Cup. Along with that, he also became the only batsman to have scored 50 centuries in the ODI format of the game.

Virat Kohli was able to score 765 runs in a single edition of the World Cup, topping the run scoring charts with a huge difference. In the semi-final clash against New Zealand, he brought up his best at his idol’s home ground. Virat was able to bring up his 50th ODI half-century, as India by 70 runs and reached the finals.

In the final match, India had a great start with Rohit Sharma on the crease. After losing quick wickets, Virat Kohli maintained his flow, as he scored 54 runs off 63 balls before being dismissed by Pat Cummins. The wicket of Virat Kohli is still being remembered as the wicket which  the game for the Indian cricket team.

Despite his best performances, he was not able to help India win the World Cup. With India losing the game in the end, Virat Kohli received the Player of the Tournament award for breaking multiple records with the bat.

2. Laura Wolvaardt in 2025 Women's World Cup

Laura Wolvaardt in 2025 repeated what Virat Kohli did in the 2023 Men's World Cup. She was able to dominate the entire tournament with her batting skills. Coming in to bat at the top order, it was trouble for the bowlers if Wolvaardt was able to set herself

Laura Wolvaardt ended as the highest run scorer of the tournament, scoring 510 runs in 9 innings at an average of 71.37, with 2 centuries and 3 half-centuries. All of her tons scored in the World Cup came when it mattered the most to the team. She started off unleashing her inner beast in the match against England.

Both teams collided with each other in the semi-final match, as South Africa batted first. Laura Wolvaardt was able to lead the team from the front, scoring 169 runs off 143 balls with 20 fours and 4 sixes. South Africa ended up winning the game by a huge margin of 125 runs and

Now, it was time for the ultimate final against India. With India batting first, the team set a target of 299 runs for South Africa to chase. While wickets were falling constantly from the other end, she continued to dominate the Indian bowlers. Wolvaardt ended up scoring 101 runs off 98 balls, but still South Africa fell short of winning the game.
