IPL | Twitter reminded off Dale Steyn with Gerald Coetzee’s raging celebration on return to the Wankhede

It is common to see cricket players coming up against their former sides in professional leagues. But pacerGerald Coetzee was fired up on his return to the Wankhede Stadium as he let out a roar after dismissing Tilak Varma in the Gujarat Titans vs Mumbai Indians match on Tuesday.

‌MI, after being put into bat in the top of the table clash in IPL 2025, got off to an excellent start as they raced to 97/2 within the 11th over, aided by some sloppy fielding from GT. But the visitors roared back into the match picking up three quick wickets as Mumbai found themselves down a slippery slope at 111/5 at the end of the 13th.

Smelling an opportune moment to tighten the noose further, captain Shubman Gill brought on Gerald Coetzee and the pacer cranked it up from the word go. Reaching the 140’s in his very first over, the Protean was charged up to prove a point to his former side.

After conceding just two runs off his first four balls, Coetzee bowled a short of the length ball outside Tilak Varma’s hitting arc. The batter still tried to go big and his bid to clear the mid-off fielder ended up straight in the hands of the GT skipper.

Gerald Coetzee was thrilled as he let out a roar and pumped his fist in happiness with the same effort that he was running into bowl. His face turned red as he silenced the home crowd and Twitter was quick to acknowledge the similarities to the celebration of another South African pacer, Dale Steyn.
